Creating Holes Using Glasswork Drilling Jig

By Catherine Burns

The construction industry has developed new mechanisms and extensive use of various building materials. There is extensive use of combinations to design unique objects. House beautification and various decorations to be hanged on the walls are developed using multiple materials. Below is a procedure for creating holes using glasswork drilling jig that will see you reuse penetrable glass solids.

To begin with is to have an understanding that there are various types of glasses in the market today. Some easily allow penetration while others cannot allow any penetration without breaking. They differ in thickness and quality. Some factors determine the kind of tool to be used among them being the size of holes intended. These coupled with the quality of material will lead to the choice of drilling bit.

The procedure will entail some steps and use of particular tools. These are the equipment and support things that will ensure you can perform some good job. They include the burrs and the bits. These two are going to facilitate the process of digging the glass. The ball burr will be used to make a divot on the surface of solid to prevent the digging tool from skidding across.

The other thing will be a tray or a pan that will be used to hold the material when performing the task. They meant to hold the lubricant. Then a suitable fluid is needed to cool the bit and the ball burr and wet the particles bored to prevent them from becoming airborne. The main reason is to reduce friction that would, in turn, generate heat which will contribute to wear out of the drill end.

The procedure followed in doing the work is not very ambiguous. It will require you to the material to be worked on the tray. Fill the tray with water or any other preferred fluid. Ensure that the fluid fills slightly above the object. Do not forget to put the wooden board at the bottom of the tray.

The object is first dug with a ball burr to make a divot that would be holding the drill tool end. Then go on to switch the burr with a bit of similar diameter. Important to note is that the bit should not be twisted. Equally, it should be of the right diameter. In case you want to drill big holes, make small ones first then go on to use the next bigger bits and burr to you get to your desire.

It is very important to ensure that you are lubricating the object as you work to ensure there is no overheating or accumulation of dust particles. This is to ensure the particles generated do not become airborne. If using running water make sure that it is continuous. Do not allow a paste to accumulate. This will be with the aim of controlling dust and prevent wear.

Begin by penetrating at lower speeds at first. Continual that way until you are comfortable with the process then you can accelerate a little bit. The advantage of doing it at a slower pace is to prolong the life span of the bits and ball burrs. Speedy boring will wear out digging parts quickly. Do not forget lubrication as you work on.
